Chronic Stress, Pain & other Bodily Symptoms
Read outThe concept of the bodymind relates to the mind, the body and the body-mind connection collectively, and thus naturally makes room for many different pathways for recovery.
One of the outcomes of such recovery is a higher capacity and control over movement of any kind as you learn more about your body and about different ways to mindfully moving it, what relates to discomfort and what counts as supportive and even joyful.
From a trauma-informed perspective: Somatic and psychological approaches to pain management thus focus on one’s perception of pain and injury, as they help release the fear and worry related to one’s physical state and assist in development of strategies that help one move with confidence once more. Additionally, long-term therapy may also help build a sense of psychological flexibility and resilience, lead to a reduction in the intensity/perception of pain, and a sense of hope about the future – all of which are then likely add to one’s energy and readiness for life experiences. Trauma-focussed modalities, like Somatic Experiencing, have even been related to complete remission of symptoms in the case of diabetes, PCOD, various autoimmune conditions, fibromyalgia, and other concerns essentially considered only manageable (and not treatable) by medical professionals.
